Registration

Sudden blood shortages can arise from increased demand, for example, traffic accidents, major surgery, and so on. The problem is compounded by the need to match blood types. In the case of platelets transfusions, not only ABO group, but also, HLA type, may be important for some patients. This is why a stable and sufficient blood supply depends especially on registered donors who agree to come regularly or on short notice.
